This off-road SUV looks promising and we expect great things from this unique variant. Whatsoever, in the last couple of weeks, we saw a lot of Expedition prototypes on the roads. For sure, the Timberline version currently attracts the most attention. It is a rugged off-road variant of the famous full-size Expedition SUV.
We already wrote about the Explorer Timberline edition and Expedition SUV will borrow a lot of things from this model. It is the same treatment that includes numerous exterior enhancements and minor interior updates. Under the hood, the same V6 engine is available once again. Here’s everything you need to know about the Expedition model and its Timberline variant.
2023 Ford Expedition Timberline: What About Powertrain Options?
The all-new 2023 Expedition Timberline is likely to be powered by Ford’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. On top of that, a 3.5-liter PowerBoost V6, which debuted in the 2021 Ford F-150, will be available as an option. For all engines, Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission will be the sole choice. The Expedition Timberline will join Ford’s rapidly expanding Timberline family, which will include other vehicles in the future.
The PowerBoost output is basically a hybrid variant with a 35-kilowatt electric motor and 1.5-kWh battery pack. Reportedly, the Expedition will produce around 430 hp and over 500 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, standard 3.5-liter EcoBoost develops 380 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, Expedition Timberline will be able to tow around 9,500 pounds.
2023 Expedition Timberline Spy Shots
The spy shots of the 2023 Ford Expedition Timberline show the model’s distinctive wheels, which are covered in hefty 265/70R18 Goodyear Wrangler Terrain AT/S tires. You can easily spot higher ride height when compared to standard Expedition models. The Timberline variant comes with a unique rear section, delivering better departure and approach angles. Skid plates will protect key powertrain elements during serious off-roading. Ford will also add new stabilizer bars and new shocks. Additionally,, some cues can be found in the Explorer Timberline edition. That includes the front spring and steering calibration.
This Expedition Timberline prototype, like the Explorer Timberline, has red tow hooks and a similar wheel design as well. The Explorer Timberline has a Torsen limited-slip differential, different front grille, updated LED fog lights, a blacked-out badge. We expect to see new exterior paints that will be available on the Timberline model exclusively.
2023 Ford Expedition Timberline Price, Release Date
For the 2018 model year, Ford introduced the current-generation Expedition. It’s long overdue for an upgrade in the rapidly changing SUV market, and that update should arrive later this year as a 2023 model. The 2023 Ford Expedition Timberline is reportedly just the beginning.
The full-size Expedition SUV will introduce much more upgrades. We don’t know how much the Timberline variant will cost. On the other hand, the base Expedition trim level will start at $51,000. Hybrid will cost closer to $60,000. The sales will begin in the coming months, most likely this fall.
