Top tech and safety features round up the package but precise handling is also what we like about this model. Mazda redesigned this big-family crossover for the 2016 model year and model paved the trail for brand’s recently all-new, smaller crossovers.The 2018 model also brought useful upgrades including standard G-Vectoring Control and new standard active safety systems. All CX-9 models include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, low-speed emergency braking and more. The mid-cycle upgrade expected for the 2025 model year will bring more substantial changes.
2025 MAZDA CX-9: DESIGN
The CX-9 is one of prettier faces among seven-seat crossovers. Thanks to the simple lines and straight shapes, the model looks elegant while Mazda’s signature grille and slim headlights define model’s identity. A similar design language, Mazda applied to the all-new CX-5 and new CX-8 also looks very similar.As for the styling of the 2025 Mazda CX-9, we should not expect big changes. Mazda will offer new exterior swatches and wheel designs. More visible updates will come with the mid-cycle refresh early next decade but Mazda won’t make radical cuts.
INTERIOR, EQUIPMENT:
Interior of the CX-9 will also return in the familiar form and similar design is also applied to the newer models. Mazda will use good-looking and good-quality materials in the seven-seat crossover and the max cargo capacity will remain at 71.2 cubes. The seats will provide long ride comfort but the third-row comfort isn’t among class leaders.What is important for the family crossover, the CX-9 will be well-equipped in all versions and with a long list of active safety features. Upgraded infotainment system will be available across the range and automatic LED headlights, three-zone automatic climate, leather-wrapped steering wheel and more will be available from the base version.As the standard equipment will also come suite of active driver aids. All CX-9 will come with blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, rearview camera, etc.
2025 MAZDA CX-9: POWERTRAINS
The current CX-9 comes with only one engine option. A 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 unit delivers 250 hp and torque of 310 pound-feet. The turbo-4 comes combined with the 6-speed automatic transmission and brand’s G-Vectoring Control improves model’s ride stability.This powertrain combo will remain standard for the 2025 Mazda CX-9. For the better fuel efficiency, the upcoming version could introduce a diesel-burning option like in the smaller CX-5. A 2.2-liter turbodiesel inline-4 engine with the capability of around 190 hp and 330 pound-feet of torque would improve model’s fuel economy and provide the great towing capability.As for the fuel economy, the turbocharged petrol will return around 24 mpg combined. With the potential diesel version, we would get about 10 percent better fuel economy.
2025 MAZDA CX-9: ARRIVAL, PRICE
The 2025 Mazda CX-9 should arrive in mid-2018. The petrol versions will stay in the neighborhood of the current price range.
